As I recall, the best way to make a bootable disk is to create either a RAM Disk or Disc Image with the desired content, making sure you "bless" the System Folder (i.e., open the System Folder once it's in place), then make a "copy of the RAM Disk/Disk Image to the CD. The importance of something like AutoCheck, maybe placed in the Mac's Startup Items folder, is that most users run Disk First Aid or a similar utility only when experiencing problems. But a lot of disk damage is incremental, and early detection and repair can be crucial to safeguarding data. By itself, Disk First Aid takes several steps to run. AutoCheck automates the entire process, with several convenient options. It stops and posts a dialog only if a disk error is found. Otherwise, it runs and then quits Disk First Aid and itself by the time you've gotten a cup of coffee, and your Mac has a clean bill of health. New in this version: option to run only once a day; better interface, faster. [Archived as /info-mac/disk/auto-check-24.hqx; 135 K] ------------------------------ Date: 5 Jun 2002 From: "Norbert M. It has a great user interface and very useful search functions. CDFinder supports drag&drop and requires a PowerPC CPU. While System 8.6 is required, CDFinder is also fully compatible to MacOS 9.2.2 and Mac OS X. A special feature is the multi-lingual user interface (German/French/English/Italian/Swedish/Chinese). Together with CDWinder 1.6 for Windows, this is a special cross platform, network solution to catalog disks and CD-ROMs on a Macintosh and a PC. The new version can be obtained from the CDFinder home page . A single user license of CDFinder is $25, multi user licenses are available. New in CDFinder 3.6.1: - A Window menu adds much better navigation. - Windows now resize live in Mac OS X. - Two additional audio file types are recognized: AIFF and WAV. CDFinder reads the duration and the encoding info for these two files types. - Drag&Drop of items from CDFinder into the Mac OS X Finder now work as they do in Mac OS 9.x. - A new PDF Users Guide explains the workings of CDFinder. - Smaller fixes and improvements, as usual.
