I am not an employee of Virgin Games nor do they have any idea that I have created this patch. This application has not been tested extensively and may have bugs or cause problems with The 7th Guest . However, given that The 7th Guest already has serious problems with Power Macintoshes, and given that I havent experienced any problems myself while playing a patched version of the game on my Power Macintosh, I dont believe there is any serious risk with using this software. ______________________________________ What it does ______________________________________ This application fixes a Power Macintosh incompatibility with Virgin Games The 7th Guest . This fixes a random crashing problem which occurs while playing the game on Power Macintosh computers (ie - PowerMac 6100, 7100, or 8100). This crash is caused by a bug in the part of the games code which controls the mouse/cursor in the game and that bug is fixed by this patch. ______________________________________ How to use it ______________________________________ You must have already installed The 7th Guest on your Macintosh before you can use this application to patch your game. This application can only patch the copy of The 7th Guest which is installed on your hard drive -- it can not patch the copy on the CD-ROM (CD-ROMs cant be modified). Before using this application, make sure that any virus protection software that you are running is turned off. This application modifies the code in your 7th Guest application and therefore could be mistaken for a virus by some detection software. To patch your game, do the following: Open the patcher application (it is named 7th Guest PPC Patch ). You will see a standard open file dialog when the application starts up. Find your copy of T7GMac on your hard disk and select it. T7GMac is the application that you open when you want to play The 7th Guest . If you have renamed this application, select the renamed copy. Click the Open button. If you double-clicked T7GMac when you selected it, you wont need to do this step. Thats it! Assuming that everything went OK, you should see an alert informing you that the patch was successful. If you ever re-install The 7th Guest , you will also need to re-apply this patch. Enjoy the game! - John #### LINK _Marathon **** #### LINK _Wolfenstein_3D **** #### BINHEX a-train-editor.hqx **** From: MDOUGLAS@VAX1.UMKC.EDU Subject: Atrain Editor Date: Sun, 20 Feb 1994 12:10:37 -0600 (CST) This editor for Atrain, lets you change the amount of money your cities have. Predator Screen Shots (JPEG) Enclosed are 16 screen shots of the Atari Jaguar's game, "Alien VS. Predator". The scene is an area that many players rarely get a chance to see, the Queen's Chamber. These JPEG pictures showcase the Queen's eggs, facehuggers, a battle with the Queen and her death, and a futile attempt to flee her ship. These shots were taken as the Atari Jaguar fed video into the Power Macintosh 7500, using the freeze-frame feature of the Apple Video Player. The pictures saved by the freeze-frame option were then converted to JPEG format to down-size the pictures to 33k each. Quality was set at 50% and no apparent loss is visually noted. The 16 screen shots are residing in a folder and were further compressed with StuffItLite (yes, even more compression occured). I attempted a QuickTime movie, but it is entirely too large to be sent over the net. Use StuffItExpander to process this contribution. Use Gif Converter, JPEG View, or any other JPEG-capable utility to view these pictures. --Larry Rymal #### BINHEX amoeb-arena-demo.hqx **** From: ntenny@qualcomm.com (Nathan Tenny) Subject: AmoebArena Demo AmoebArena is a strategy board game with a science-fiction theme, single-celled pieces, and whimsical bells and whistles. For those who don't know, this is a corporate empire-building game. Trade stocks, build mines, logging camps, oil wells, farms, factories, retail outlets, and R&D centers. The conditions for winning are defined by each scenario. Has a "Civilization" kind of feel to it, ie there's a bird's-eye view of a large map, with the various facilities being placed in different spots. Very detailed management of the corporate empire, but relatively easy to grasp, given a bit of time. Demo specifics... a very helpful tutorial is included to get one started. Only one scenario from the full game is enabled. Saving and loading saved games is disabled. There's no time limit, though, so the one available scenario is fully functional! If you find a bug - or just want to request a new feature - let me know. Drag and drop a saved Civ game onto the app and it will prompt you for the changes you want to make. Possible options include adding gold, settlers, or technologies. When you add a technology, all prerequisites are added as well. There is also an option to make the entire map visible. You can apply the changes to all civs instead of just your own. This allows the game to be played more rapidly without making it unfair. I typically start with 10 settlers, 1000 gold, and Navigation for everyone. The makes the beginning part of the game (which I find very tedious) to fly by while still presenting a challenge. #### BINHEX civ-crack-editor-11b.hqx **** Date: Mon, 29 Aug 1994 21:13:55 -0700 (PDT) From: Robin Emig Subject: CivCrackEditor 1.1b Civ Crack Editor V 1.1b LEGAL: Note: Once you have registered your copy it is not shareware, please do not distribute it on any bbs's or public ftp sites without my permission inless you unregister it by going to the Unregister menu in the Apple Menu.If you want to distribute this program on a CDROM or Magnetic Media I grant you permission as long as I recieve one copy of the CDROM or Magnetic Media. CivHackFAT is a "fat" system extension (or INIT) that fixes a problem many people have running the MicroProse's Civilization(TM) on PCI-based PowerMacs under System 7.5.2 and on all PowerMacs under 7.5.3. Running this extension should solve at least one class of problems with Civ on PowerMacs. * Why CivHackFAT? Why indeed, since there's a CivHackPCI out there that basically does the same thing. The reason is technical: CivHackPCI patches a PowerPC-native trap with 680x0 code. This is fine when running old 680x0 applications, but generates unnecessary (and very slow) mode-switching when running PowerPC-native applications that like to twiddle the color cursor (e.g. NewsWatcher). CivHackFAT solves this problem by applying a "fat" patch of both 680x0 and PowerPC code. CivHackFAT also provides information about whether it loaded correctly at startup time, which CivHackPCI does not. CivHackFAT is free. #### BINHEX civ-hack-power-mac-10.hqx **** From: (Ian Russell Ollmann) iano@scripps.edu Subject: CivHackPowerMac 1.0 CivHackPowerMac-1.0 is "CivHackPCI" renamed to more accurately describe its function now that System 7.5.3 has been found to contain the same incompatability which prevented Microprose Civilization from running on macintoshes running System 7.5.2. All Power Macintoshes have been experiencing trouble running Civilization under the latest OS release. Specifically, CivHackPowerMac is a tiny system extension which prevents Microprose's Macintosh Civilization game from crashing with a type 11 error at the opening menu on PowerPC macintoshes running System 7.5.2 or 7.5.3. This extension has been in use by the general public since 2/96 and no one has reported any System conflicts to my knowledge. The extension itself patches an incompatability between Civilization and Quickdraw in Systems 7.5.2 and 7.5.3 that resulted in this crash. This file does not seem to be required for 68k (non-PowerPC) macintoshes to run Civilization. This file is a binhexed stuffit archive containing a System extension which may be installed by dragging it onto your System Folder and restarting your machine. There is also a short README file. The updater updates from version 1.0 (simply titled "Damage Incorporated" on the CD) to version 1.1. If your Damage Incorporated CD came with a version higher than 1.1 on it, this updater is unnecessary for you. This updater fixes many minor bugs in version 1.1, as well as improving Squad-member AI, making scenery objects less "sticky", and adding text-based radio messages, so that one can play with the sound off. For a detailed description of the bug fixes and feature improvements please see the Read Me included in the file. All owners of Damage Incorporated are highly encouraged to pick up this updater. One must be an owner of the commercial version of Damage Incorporated to use this updater. What is Damage Incorporated? Developed by Paranoid Productions and published by MacSoft, the game casts the player as a present- day Sergeant leading a team of up to 4 Marines in real-time, death- permeated, 3D warfare. Combining first person combat with real- time strategy ala Command & Conquer, Damage Incorporated is almost certainly different from anything else you've seen. For more information, refer to the Read Me file in the archive, or check out the web page at http://www.cs.uchicago.edu/~bcy1/damage The proper location for the file would seem to be in the /game/com section of Info-Mac. Now you can quickly and easily change your Exile party to suit your liking, without all that tedious worrying about whether you have enough gold or skill points, or if you were really supposed to kill that dragon or not. Exciting? You bet! Listen to these testimonials: "Once I was always short on cash! No more! Now I always have 25000 gold, and 25000 food to boot. Unbelievable? Hell, it's impossible! Thank you, Exile Character Editor!" The demo version of the editor can give you unlimited gold and food, and completely heal your party as well. It can also unkill dragons, and take your party out of a town. The registered version can do much more... "Motrax got mad at me when I looted his hoard, so I killed him. Boy, was my face red when I found out he knew something I really needed to know. But thanks to the Exile Editor, I was able to raise him from the dead, find out what I needed to know, and KILL HIM AGAIN!" Bring back dragons. Complete quests. Let yourself know all the maps to all the dungeons. Get all the special items. Change your skills arbitraily. And... "We broke into the Demon Lord's throne room and he laughed at us! Can you believe it? So we pulled out our six Demonslayers and said 'WHO'S LAUGHIN' NOW, HORN-BOY?'" Give yourself as many artifacts as you want: magic armor and weapons, wands, you name it! Fritz" Subject: * Pittsburgh to Morgantown Flight Simulator Controller Date: Fri, 10 Dec 1993 14:36:10 EST Pittsburgh to Morgantown Controller For FS-ATC 2.1 Copyright by Jeffrey N. Fritz 9 December 1993 Version 1.37 All Rights Reserved No doubt many folks would love to fly above the clouds from Pittsburgh International to Morgantown, West Virginia--home of the 11-0 Sugar Bowl bound West Virginia Mountaineers! (Go Ers!) With the PIT-MGW controller and a few other goodies, you will be able to do that just that. You'll even be able to communicate in real time with simulated air traffic controllers. The controllers will call out positioning information to you all along the route. When you break out of the clouds, Morgantown's Hart field will be dead ahead! The PIT-MGW controller simulates a Crown (USAir) commuter flight from Pittsburgh International to Hart Field in Morgantown. The air route follows the actual route flown by the commuter (weather permitting) several times a day, seven days a week. The aircraft usually flown is a Shorts 330. With full out throttle and a little imagination, Microsoft Flight Simulator's Cessna 182 can come close to emulating the Shorts. This is the first of what will be (hopefully) many controllers for Microsoft Flight Simulator and Miika Asunta's FS-ATC. I would enjoy hearing from private or commercial pilots or from air traffic controllers. Maybe you have a flight plan that would be fun to simulate. I'd be glad to work with pilots or controllers in creating new controller files, especially for ILS routes that professional or private pilots have flown. Getting started To use this controller you need three things: 1. Microsoft Flight Simulator 4.0 (Mac version) 2. FS-ATC 2.1 Air Traffic Control software for Microsoft Flight Simulator Macintosh version 4.0 (Available on Sumex-Aim and Nautilus CD-ROM.) 3. There is another patch program to convert 1.0.2 and 1.0.3 to 1.0.4 (I don't know of any patch for 1.0.1, or if this versions was ever officially released). You must patch a "fresh" copy of Hellcats (one that has not been run before). (some versions don't contain the correct version information in the Finder's "get info" window. and others are reported to lack version information in the splash window.) What's New: The major feature of version 1.0.4 is the support of Sound Manager 3.0 or greater. (AV users can now have sound for their game.) Versions 1.01 to 1.03 were various bug fixes. But they can't spell worth a darn; dialog boxes in Hellcats and Leyte (and the manuals for that matter) are absolutely full of stupid spelling errors (like "acheived", in one dialog box that successful pilots get to see a lot). This annoys me. If it doesn't annoy you, read no further and trash this. If it annoys you too, use ResEdit to paste these corrected STR# resources into their respective applications (Hellcats and LeyteGulf). All I did was use ResEdit on the original STR# resources and edit their text to correct spellings, capitalize Hellcat, etc. You could use this same technique to customize Hellcats messages (e.g. "You really bit the big one there, ace."). Graphic Simulations or anyone else is welcome to take these STR# resources and create a more user-friendly patching application. [Usual warning: ResEdit can be a dangerous toy, make backup copies first] Surely this doesn't violate Graphic Simulation's copyright since the STR# resources alone are of no use to anyone who doesn't own Hellcats/Leyte. Here is a minor update which fixes the (non-fatal) problem. LEYTE RESCUE 1.01 This little utility will recover non-active pilots in Hellcats: Missions at Leyte Gulf. It restores pilots to "Active" status but does not change any of their other attributes (ie: points, rank, kills, etc are remembered from their former life). The new training missions make you WORK for your qualifications. Land a damaged Hornet on a carrier at night in "Carrier Night Quals," practice advanced high-speed/low-level bombing runs with Hornets Two and Three on Kahoolawe in "Low Leveler," and defend the honor of your Air Wing, with Hornet Two, against two Air Force F-16's following strict rules of engagement. #### BINHEX iff-snooper-x.hqx **** From: Peter.Gould@pat.ulaval.ca Subject: IFFSnooper 1.1.7 abstract IFF Snooper 1.1.7 January 2005 -------------- Introduction -------------- IFFSnooper is a utility program for examining and editing the IFF files used in the Maxis game The Sims(TM) and its expansions. It is one of a series on the Macintosh, the most recent of which is a CD-ROM called "World of Xeen", which is really Might and Magic IV and V in one package. This patch will update the Might & Magic III application versions 1.0, 1.0.1, and 1.0.2 to 1.1b1. Additionally, it will update the M&M3 Sound file to version 1.1. This update has not been tested by New World Computing. It is offered independently of New World Computing - if you have a problem with it, do not contact New World Computing. It may not work correctly at all. It is labeled "beta" to indicate that it has had very little testing. While I have made my best effort to insure proper functionality, Might and Magic III 1.1b1 may not work correctly at all. Though very unlikely, this version could cause you to lose data. Use it at your own risk. That said, I hope it works well and welcome bug reports and comments. e-mail me at "jake@presage.com". Version 1.1 corrects several minor problems with previous versions of Might and Magic III. From here you can invite someone to play chess or choose to watch a match in progress. The Chess Rooms window shows a list of all players. Icons appear next to each name to show what that person is doing. A hand indicates that the player is currently competing in a chess match, an eye shows that the person watching a match, and an hourglass is used for players who are waiting in the Chess Room. You may talk to other people in the Chess Room by using the Public Talk window. (If you do not see this window, try moving the main chess window until the Talk window is revealed.) To watch a match in progress, you simply select a competing player and choose Watch from the Chess menu. To begin a chess match of your own, you must invite another person to play. Do this by selecting the name of your desired opponent and choosing Invite from the Chess menu. After you choose the game settings, the player you choose will be informed of your invitation. If he or she accepts, the game will begin. If not, you will be told that your invitation has been declined. When the chess match begins, you will move from the Chess Room to the Chess Board. If it is your move, Your Turn will appear on the right side of the window. Otherwise, you will see Waiting. To move a piece, click and drag to the space to which you want to move. When the destination square becomes highlighted, release the mouse button. Only the squares which represent legal moves can be selected. If you find that you cant make a move which you think is legal, it is probably because that move would place you in check. When your opponent makes a move, you will notice that two squares will remain highlighted briefly. These squares indicate which piece was moved, as well as the space from which it was moved. If your opponents move puts you in check, you will receive a Check message. When in check, you will only be allowed to make moves which take you out of check. A match can end with a checkmate, a draw, a player resignation, or a player running out of time. After a match, you will remain at the Chess Board until you decide to Put Board Away using the Chess menu. Outland Chess supports four ways in which a match may end in a draw. These include: - the same board situation three times - 50 reversible moves in a row - insufficient mating material - no possible moves Outland Chess also supports en passant captures. #### BINHEX outland-crossroads.hqx **** Outland Crossroads Crossroads is a BBS application for Outland. It is a "how to" edit in items, health, position in dungeon, proficiency and all. It is a must have if you are stuck in the game (or out of ammo!) and need a little boost. It is also a large spoiler (it does not include any spoilers on any of the puzzles or what to do in the game) if you use it the wrong way... Some people tend tothink that using it in the wrong way is actually the right way and adds to the game... :) You deside, fun discretion is advised. Playable full screen on any monitor capable of 256 colors or grays, and with PowerPC native code, combined with 680x0 code, as a "Fat binary," PEGLEG promises to capture every last ounce of adrenaline with blazing speed, smooth animation, and crisp rich sound. Watch for special online pricing. PegLeg is an action game in the grandest tradition. With your hands at the controls of the Mach Z Battalion Blaster, a space craft designed to help you defend the earth from wave after wave of vicious alien pirates, you must battle alone. Your only goal is to survive against mounting odds. PegLeg is designed to appeal to all players, from arcade neophytes to veteran gamers. The game offers three levels of difficulty: the slow mode allows you time to develop a familiarity with the controls; medium gives you a more challenging pace; and fast taxes your reflex to their utmost. A word of warning PP Double Speed is, well, fast, particularly on a Power Macintosh. PegLeg will, however, play full screen in 256 colors on any size monitor, giving you plenty of room to run, while still giving you a thoroughly adrenaline-pumping experience. One of the most completely satisfying arcade games available, Pegleg is simple, elegant, and so addictive it's dangerous. Pegleg is destined to become one of the best selling arcade games ever for Macintosh. Highlights: %%% Full-screen play on any size color monitor. %%% Runs NATIVE on PowerPC based Macintoshes. %%% Adjustable mouse sensitivity, allowing customization of the "feel" of the game. %%% Full range of volume control for sounds. %%% Three levels of difficulty. %%% Smooth, beautifully rendered sprites %%% Wonderful use of sounds %%% Thousands of levels %%% Engaging characters %%% Seamless animation and sharp colors Requirements and Recommendations: % 8-bit (256) 256 Color or grayscale graphics capability. % 68020 or better Macintosh (Runs NATIVE on Power Macintosh!) % Supports any screen size and three play speeds. % System 6.0.7 or later. % 1.9 MB of free RAM. On larger monitors more RAM may be necessary for full-screen play.) % Hard Disk with at least 2.1 MB free. % Sound Manager 3.0 (or later) is recommended, but not required. Notes: Changes from versions 1.0 and 1.0.1 to 1.0.3 include the addition of self-playing capability, and a demo mode that will begin after 1 minute of idle time, cycle through each of the information screens, then play out 1 level of the game. Changes from 1.0.3 to 1.0.5 include the elimination of a screen redraw problem caused by a bug in the PDS video cards found on some PowerMacs. The self-play mode can also be initiated by depressing Cmd-Shift-D.
